Outlaw Press

UPDATE: I really put my foot into it this time! It looks like the leopard hasn't changed its spots, and OP is still up to its sleazy old ways. I apologize for giving them any word of mouth. Thanks to everybody for setting me straight on this one. If anyone reading this wants T&T stuff please go to sites like Flying Buffalo and Tunnels & Trolls and not the crappy outfit I posted about below.

This may only be news to me, but it looks like Outlaw Press is back. As you may know, they got into quite a bit of trouble not to long ago when they were accused of plagiarizing artwork. It looks like they've put that behind them and are back in the swing of things. They have a new website and it's being regularly updated.

They are the main source for T&T material out there, even counting Flying Buffalo (no MSPE, though). Their main claim to fame is their re-prints of vintage T&T rules, like the 4th edition, Monsters! Monsters!, and the legendary 1st edition, the first non-D&D RPG ever published.

They've also taken the system in new directions with Superheroes Power Trip, a set of T&T superhero rules by Ken St. Andre himself, and Gamma-Trollworld, which is the T&T answer to Gamma World. In addition they publish a lot of solo and GM adventures for T&T.

I haven't bought anything from them myself, so I can't comment on their quality or service. One peculiarity is that several of their rules are only available as spiral-bound books. Is that an old-school thing? Anyway, if you like T&T you'll want to check them out. If nothing else, they offer a bunch of free adventures that you can download. What's not to like about that?

I'd recommend not buying anything from Outlaw to be honest. My latest T&T GM adventure and solo were put on there recently without my permission with all copyright text stripped off. I wouldn't have minded if Shipman, the guy who runs it, asked before putting them up, since I make them available for free anyway, but it's pretty disrespectful.

Sounds like an iffy outfit still. They trying to live up to their name?

Nothing has changed with Outlaw Press. Not now, not ever.

They still publish material they have no right to publish. They publish Flying Buffalo's material without permission or authorization from Rick Loomis, and a lot of the solos they "sell" are available for free or at a greatly reduced price directly from the authors. If you're buying anything from this Shipman clown you're getting ripped off, plus putting money in a jerk's pocket.

Trrrommm the Troll no like Outlaw Press - not buy T&T from James Shipman go to other on line sellers and boycott Shipman.

Outlaw Press, James Shipman's one man "company", is publishing low-quality products using unedited copyrighted works without the authors' permissions. He used to misappropriate a jumble of mismatched illustrations from various sources, which had often nothing to do with the actual content of the books. Now, it's either that, or no drawings anymore. If you want to encourage real creativity and quality products for Tunnels & Trolls, buy from Flying Buffalo, Perython, Trollhalla, Fiery Dragon, Andy Holmes, Jason Mills, Dan Hembree, but never from Outlaw Press.

I'd recommend visiting tunnelsandtrolls.com. There, you can find direct links to solos, mini-solos and all things T&T related, and how to get them directly from the authors. Don't pay for product from Outlaw Press. Your wallet will thank you.

Wow! Sorry guys. I had no idea that stuff was still going on. I did a web search for "T&T Zine" and their new site came up in the results. My mistake for posting about them. Thanks for setting the record straight.
